While a tension bar might appear to be nothing more than a simple piece of metal, it is actually one of the most essential components in the building of a chain link fence. For it is this elongated, narrow accessory that provides the tension needed to make the fence fabric rigid and stable—and, thus, prevent animals and people from easily lifting the fabric and crawling under. An important note: Before installing the tension bars and chain link fabric, the terminal posts on your fence need to be fitted with tension bands.
After installing the line posts, terminal posts, and top rails, attach the chain link fabric. Do so by unrolling the fabric and standing up one end of it so that it is parallel to the nearest terminal post. Keep the fabric in place and carefully slide the tension bar vertically through the tension bands as well as the "knuckles" at the end of the fabric. Using the same method, install a second tension bar on the opposite end of the fabric. The tension provided by both bars will keep the fabric stretched.
You will need two tension bars for each stretch of fabric. Install a bar at every corner, end, and gate post. This 96" Tension Bar is designed only for 8' chain link fences. It is galvanized, meaning it is rust resistant and long-lasting.
- Made for an 8' tall fence
- Rust resistant
- Sturdy steel construction
How the part fits? A 96" tension bar is actually 94” in length. It is designed to fit through the last weave of the chain link fabric at the point of termination.
Where is it installed? The tension bar is installed at every point where you terminate your chain link fence.
How many do you need? You will need (1) 96” tension bar at every corner, end, and gate post. For every stretch of fence, you will need (2) total.
2.98lbs
Once you have installed your post, framework and top rail, you will take the end of the chain link fabric and place it up to the terminal post. Start at the top of the chain link fabric and insert the tension bar down through the bands and the weave of the chain link until you get to the bottom. You will then tighten all the tension and end bands to hold the tension bar in place.
