When building a 5' chain link fence, an essential component is this 60" Galvanized Tension Bar. Despite its simple appearance—an elongated, thin piece of metal—this is the fitting that helps provide tautness chain link fabric needs to be rigid and secure. Without tension, people and animals can easily lift the fabric and crawl underneath—thereby defeating the purpose of building chain link fences in the first place. Please note: before you install your tension bars, you need to fit all of your terminal posts with tension bands.

When ready, unroll your chain link fabric and stand one end up against the nearest terminal post. Take your tension bar and run it downward—vertically—through both the tension bands and the "knuckles" at the edge of your fabric. Do the same at the fabric's opposite end. Two tension bars are needed for each stretch of fabric, and they should be installed at every gate, corner, and end post. This particular tension bar, as mentioned, is designed for 5' chain link fences. It is made of galvanized material, meaning it is rust resistant and built to last.

  • Sturdy steel construction
  • Galvanized; rust resistant
  • Keeps wire secure

How the part fits?  A 60" tension bar is actually 58” in length. It is designed to fit through the last weave of the chain link fabric at the point of termination.

Where is it installedA tension bar is installed at every point where you terminate your chain link fence.

How many do you need? You will need (1) 60” tension bar at every corner, end, and gate post. For every stretch of fence, you will need (2) total

Once you have installed your post, framework and top rail, you will take the end of the chain link fabric and place it up to the terminal post. Start at the top of the chain link fabric and insert the tension bar down through the bands and the weave of the chain link until you get to the bottom. You will then tighten all the tension and end bands to hold the tension bar in place.
