Despite its simple appearance—what appears to be nothing more than a narrow slat of metal—a tension bar is fundamental when building chain link fence panels. Believe it or not, this is the fitting that helps stretch fabric and makes it impervious to be lifted. Once this part has been properly installed, it will be nearly impossible for people and animals to crawl under your fence. Please note: before you install tension bars on your chain link fence, all of your fence's terminal posts need to be fitted with tension bands. These parts work in conjunction to provide tension.
Once you have installed your top rails, line posts, and terminal posts, unroll your chain link fabric and stand one end of it against the nearest terminal post. Keep the fabric in place and carefully slide a tension bar downward through the "knuckles" at the end of the fabric and, at the same time, through the tension bands installed on your terminal post. Repeat the process at the nearest terminal post using the opposite end of the fabric. The resultant tension stretches the fabric and makes your fence more impervious.
Two tension bars are needed for each stretch of fabric. Install a bar at each gate, end, and corner post. The 42" Galvanized Tension Bar is designed for 4' chain link fences. Made of galvanized steel, this bar is greatly resistant to rust and corrosion. It will be a long lasting addition to your chain link fence.

How the part fits? A 42" tension bar is actually 40” in length. It is designed to fit through the last weave of the chain link fabric at the point of termination.
Where is it installed? A tension bar is installed at every point where you terminate your chain link fence.
How many do you need? You will need (1) 42” tension bar at every corner, end, and gate post. For every stretch of fence, you will need (2) total.

Once you have installed your post, framework and top rail, you will take the end of the chain link fabric and place it up to the terminal post. Start at the top of the chain link fabric and insert the tension bar down through the bands and the weave of the chain link until you get to the bottom. You will then tighten all the tension and end bands to hold the tension bar in place.
