Tension bands are essential to building a chain link fence. Attached to terminal posts (end posts, gate posts, corner posts, etc.), these steel bands are used in combination with tension bars (sold separately) to attach the chain link fence fabric. Attach three tension bands to your terminal posts by sliding them over and down after the post has been installed. Space the tension bands evenly apart. Finally, slide a 5/16" x 1-1/4" carriage bolt (sold separately) through the tangs of each band, and tighten.

The tension bar (again, sold separately) is slid vertically through the tension bands, and also through the ends of the chain link fabric. This not only attaches your chain link fence fabric but also tightens it to make the fence secure. These corrosion-resistant bands may also be used for gate frames. They are made of galvanized steel. This order comes with 10 bands.

  • Available in black; part #10417B.
  • Fits 3” size posts
  • Galvanized
  • Does not include a Carriage Bolt & Nut, part #11170.

How the part fits? 3”square tension band is designed to fit around a 3” square terminal post.

Where is it installed? 3” square tension band is installed by sliding over the 3” square terminal post once the post is set. Tension bands will be evenly placed on each terminal post.

How many do you need? You will need 3” tension bands for every stretch of fence. The amount of tension bands you will need per square terminal post is 1 less than the height of the fence. For example, if you have a 4’ fence you will need (3) 3” square tension bands per terminal post. There are two exceptions, if you have a 3’ or 3-1/2’ fence, you will need (3) 3” square tension bands. For a full stretch of fence from terminal post to terminal post, you will need double the amount. Ex: For a stretch 4’ fence you will need (6) total 3” square tension bands.
